Because autistic people are often visual learners and so process information better with the aid of visual supports.

Because the language in a visual support is consistent, whilst spoken language can change.

Visual supports provide non-fade cues that can be referred to again and again.

In a mentoring situation visual supports can provide a focus and a starting point for discussion. They can make the session less 'socially intense' and therefore more relaxing for many autistic people.
